Peter Fraenkel remains Chief Technology Officer at Marine Current Turbines
Peter Fraenkel, one of the co-founders of Marine Current Turbines Limited, is to remain with the company working part-time having left the Board and retired from his full-time appointment as Technical Director. When not working for MCT he will be running his own private consultancy business focussing on various new initiatives that are non-competitive with MCT. Peter is also a Visiting Professor at Edinburgh University, School of Engineering and a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and of the Energy Institute.
Involved in tidal energy technology for over thirty years, Peter has an international reputation for his pioneering work in the field. Earlier this year, he had decided to retire from Marine Current Turbines (MCT), but following the arrival of new Chief Executive Officer, Dr Andrew Tyler, in July 2011 Peter has agreed to stay on with the company.
Dr Tyler said: “I am absolutely delighted that Peter has decided to continue in my team. His knowledge, reputation, and talent are invaluable to the company. We are entering a crucial phase in MCT’s development and retaining Peter’s services and commitment will greatly enhance our ability to fulfil our objectives.”
Peter will focus on MCT’s future technology development, including deeper-water fully-submerged tidal current systems, as well as the development of the company’s global market base.
Peter commented; “I am very pleased to be continuing my involvement with MCT. We have led the way in tidal energy development over the past decade, so I am much looking forward to working with Andrew and his team to develop our suite of tidal technologies and help to take them to commercial scale implementation in UK and overseas waters.”
