Structural Engineer

Building on the success of SeaGen, the world’s leading tidal stream turbine, which is registered as a UK power station and regularly sells electricity into the National Grid, Marine Current Turbines is now embarking on the enormous challenge of spearheading technology development in preparation for deployment of commercial tidal farms.

Marine Current Turbines is a progressive company and provides a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of the rapidly evolving tidal stream energy industry. You will take leading roles in the design and development of tidal turbine structures, foundations and installation concepts.

Principal skills or knowledge that will have been previously applied in an industrial role will include:

  • the calculation of environmental loads on structures from turbulent current flows with waves
  • conceptual and detailed design of steel structures for use in marine environments. The candidate may have some Naval Architecture experience
  • analysis of the dynamic response of structures to cyclic loading
  • a working knowledge of BS and DNV design codes. Specific knowledge of BS5400, BS5950, DNV J101 and DNV C203 would be an advantage
  • detailed stress analysis with some experience of finite element modelling (ANSYS preferred)
  • detailed fatigue analysis
  • the use of general design tools and drawing packages (Autodesk Inventor preferred)
  • an understanding of manufacturing and quality control processes

Candidates must be able to demonstrate a creative and imaginative approach to finding solutions to technical challenges.
MCT provides a competitive package with benefits.
